The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has promulgated a new standard for respirable crystalline silica for both general industry and construction. Key provisions of the standard include reduction of the exposure limit to 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air, establishment of an Action Level of 25 micrograms per cubic meter of air, use of engineering controls, respiratory protection, regulated areas, written exposure control plan, medical surveillance, training, and recordkeeping. CIH Services can conduct initial and/or periodic air monitoring to assess employee exposures as well as provide recommendations on engineering and work practice controls to reduce exposure. In addition, we can develop a written program and provide the required training to employees.
