Asbestos Management Services

CIH Services personnel have a great deal of experience providing asbestos management services. One of the most interesting was the development and implementation of the Asbestos Management Program at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This involved the inspection for asbestos-containing materials, their locations and conditions in 28 buildings constructed in the 1960's comprising over two million square feet of floor area. A comprehensive Operations and Maintenance Program was drafted as well as a series of training videos scripted and produced to cover the various levels consisting of awareness, incidental disturbance and full abatement. In addition, abatement specifications and project management was provided for the removal of asbestos insulation from the airframe of the KC135 Zero G Test Platform Aircraft, known as the “Vomit Comet”, prior to a trip to Tinker Airforce Base in Oklahoma for a complete avionics systems upgrade.

CIH personnel also participated in the AHERA inspection of Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) on military bases in Germany, Japan, Italy, Portugal, Cuba and other locations around the world.

Other asbestos-related projects of note include the testing and design of the removal and disposal of asbestos insulated control rod cables in the core of commercial nuclear reactors during refueling. Testing for asbestos and lead-based paint was also conducted inside the first commercial nuclear power plant located in Shippingport, Pennsylvania during the decommissioning and demolition process.

CIH Services conducted asbestos inspections of over 300 major United States Postal Service facilities including the second largest located in Philadelphia and the development of Operations and Maintenance Plans for each facility.

Our primary focus is the health and safety of current and future building occupants while ensuring the protection of abatement workers and adherence to regulatory requirements. Let CIH Services be your asbestos consultant of choice.
